Dining

Ratio Theatre Company   2011 - 2012 Season productions
DiningThe Dining Room by A.R. Gurney
September 23 - October 2, 2011
Directed by Justen Nast

The play is set in the dining room of a typical well-to-do household, the place where the family assembled daily for breakfast and dinner and for any and all special occasions. The action is comprised of a mosaic of interrelated scenes—some funny, some touching, some rueful—which, taken together, create an in-depth portrait of a vanishing species: the upper-middle-class WASP. The actors change roles, personalities and ages with virtuoso skill as they portray a wide variety of characters, from little boys to stern grandfathers, and from giggling teenage girls to Irish housemaids. Dovetailing swiftly and smoothly, the varied scenes coalesce, ultimately, into a theatrical experience of exceptional range, compassionate humor and abundant humanity.

SSLThe Sunset Limited by Cormac McCarthy
November 18 - 27, 2011
Directed by Joey Infinito

"Nothing short of dazzling. So astonishingly effecting, so powerful, so stimulating!” –Chicago Tribune

A startling encounter on a New York subway platform leads two strangers to a run-down tenement where a life or death decision must be made. In that small apartment, “Black” and “White,” as the two men are known, begin a conversation that leads each back through his own history, mining the origins of two fundamentally opposing world views. White is a professor whose seemingly enviable existence of relative ease has left him nonetheless in despair. Black, an ex-con and ex-addict, is the more hopeful of the men–though he is just as desperate to convince White of the power of faith as White is desperate to deny it.

Their aim is no less than this: to discover the meaning of life.

PassionTalk About The Passion by Graham Farrow
January 13 - 22, 2012
Directed by Alan Berger

Jason Carroway is forced to endure the guilt at failing to protect his son and the subsequent media attention that accompanies the controversial release of his killer’s autobiography. The play is a moving and powerful exploration of loss, society’s collusion in the glamorization of evil, and the desire for justice.

(this play contains adult themes and situations and is not suitable for children)

BRELJacques Brel
Is Alive And Well And Living In Paris
production conception, English lyrics, additional material by Eric Blau and Mort Shuman, based on Jacques Brel's lyrics and commentary, music by Jacques Brel

March 9 - 18, 2012
Directed byJoey Infinito

The poignant, passionate and profound songs of Belgian songwriter Jacques Brel are brought to vivid theatrical life in this intense musical experience. Brel's legendary romance, humor and moral conviction are evoked simply and directly. The result is a powerful, intimate, bold and emotional evening of theatre. Brimming with flair, attitude and European sophistication, these rich compositions bring to mind the groundbreaking work of Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht, creating a universe all their own that consistently startles with its daring, candor and insight. The sheer musical poetry of each song supports many layers of interpretation.
